In a McClain County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the McClain County Courthouse, the commissioners addressed various matters impacting the county. Chairman Terry Daniel presided over the meeting, which commenced at 8:15 a.m.

There’s an old saying that you don’t really appreciate something until you don’t have it anymore. We all know that to be true in our personal life with each loss of a lifelong friend or family member. It’s no secret many newspapers in the United States have closed in recent years. Every time it happens it feels like losing a lifelong friend or family member.

Mid-America Technology Center is well represented in the SkillsUSA Southwest District this year. The five MATC students selected as officers are Isaiah Butler, Myles Hall, Gabriel Herring, Dale Hodge, and McKenna Largent. Butler, Herring, and Hodge are Cyber Security students, and Hall and Largent are students in the Horticulture Technician program.

Last week we learned about the “Flag Code” established by The American Legion in 1923 and adopted by the National Flag Conference later that year. It was eventually adopted by Congress in 1942.

Romash earns Statesman Award

“Some days are just awesome!” — that’s what Will Lyles said after he and his wife, Blythe, were watching two different sports on September 25 which involved their children, both Newcastle athletes.

A Regional Tournament victory means the Newcastle Racers host an Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association Super Regional Tournamenttoday(Thursday) and will play at 3 and 5 p.m.

On September 30, Peaceful Warriors Martial Arts Competition Team students from the Newcastle area participated in Battle of the Midwest in Strafford, Missouri.
