‘I wonder how often this has happened?’ — Dad

“Some days are just awesome!” — that’s what Will Lyles said after he and his wife, Blythe, were watching two different sports on September 25 which involved their children, both Newcastle athletes.

Deacon is a seventh grader at Newcastle Middle School and Brooklyn is a senior at Newcastle High School.

Will said, “Deacon was playing football against Blanchard and the game went into overtime. Blanchard had first possession and our Racers kept them out of the end zone. It’s now Newcastle’s ball with the score tied 20-20 and a score will win it.”

He said, “A few blocks down the road, Brooklyn is playing softball against Lindsay and the game has gone into extra innings with our Racers keeping them from scoring in the top of the 8th.

“It’s now bottom of the 8th, tied 1-1, and we get runners on base.”

Will said that within just a few minutes of each other, Deacon ran the first snap in for a touchdown, and then Brooklyn hits a home run, sending the ball to the parking lot.

“Both kids with walk off wins,” he said.

Two big plays at about the same time for one family. Yes … “some days are just awesome!”
