In a McClain County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the McClain County Courthouse, the commissioners addressed various matters impacting the county. Chairman Terry Daniel presided over the meeting, which commenced at 8:15 a.m.

County Clerk Pam Beller conducted the roll call, confirming the presence of Chairman Terry Daniel, Vice Chairman Glen Murray, and member Wilson Lyles.

The meeting began with the approval of the minutes of the previous meeting, which occurred on September 11, 2023. Lyles moved to approve the minutes, and Murray seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve.

The commissioners then turned their attention to maintenance and operation claims for the fiscal year 2022-2023. The claims for the day were deferred due to the County Clerk and Payables Clerk attending the CODA Conference in the preceding week. The Blanket Purchase Orders, which were on file in the County Clerk’s Office, were approved unanimously.

No transfers or road crossing permits were issued during the meeting.

The Financial Statement for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, was approved by unanimous vote. The commissioners also approved the appointment of Cambry Martin as Receiving Officer for the Election Board.

Among the key decisions made during the meeting was the approval of several resolutions for disposing of equipment from the Sheriff’s Office. Notably, two vehicles were sold through Purple Wave Auction to Kelley Lowe and Saketh Reddy Velapati.

The commissioners allocated ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds for the outfitting of new vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office. A total of $20,211 was approved for Turn-Key Mobile, Inc. for computer equipment, and $5,407.25 for radio equipment from Stolz Telecom.

In a move to enhance water and sewer infrastructure projects, the commissioners awarded ARPA Funds to Rural Water District #8 in Mc-Clain County. The funds, not exceeding $180,000, are designated for installing a new water well with a 12’ raw main water line to the treatment plant.

With the county facing the possibility of dangerous conditions, Daniel introduced a Resolution to extend the current County Wide Burn Ban for a period not exceeding 14 days from September 18, 2023. The motion was seconded by Murray and passed unanimously.

They readdressed the burn ban at their October 2 meeting. The outcome of that was not reported in this issue because of printing deadlines for the week.

The Commissioners’ meeting adjourned at 9:34 a.m.
