In a regular session held on Monday at the McClain County Courthouse, the Board of McClain County Commissioners addressed several important matters. Chairman Wilson Lyles called the meeting to order and led the flag salute, followed by County Clerk Pam Beller calling the roll.

Concluding the July City Council meeting, Mayor Karl Nail announced that Tommy Clay had resigned from his position as a city council member. The board will now be tasked with appointing someone by majority vote to fill Clay’s seat in Ward 1.

Kristanna Phillips of Newcastle is a 2023 graduate of Newcastle High School, but “she also is already an accomplished painter with numerous stunning canvases under her belt.”

A request to place an oil well site behind the Quail Run subdivision in Newcastle met with resistance from area neighbors, but was eventually approved by the City Council.

The Board of McClain County Commissioners held a regular session meeting on June 26, 2023, at the McClain County Courthouse. All three commissioners were present: Chairman Wilson Lyles, Vice Chairman Terry Daniel, and Member Glen Murray.

The Newcastle Boy Scout Troop 231 cleaned up Veterans Park on Sunday, July 2 after the Red, White & Blue Fest activities the night before. This is the third year in a row the Scouts have volunteered. They were able to pick up seven bags of trash and they cleaned from the east side of the park all the way over past the field to the extra parking on the west side.
