Katelyn Kates, a junior at Newcastle High School, paged for Rep. Sherrie Conley (R-Newcastle) from Feb. 12-15 at the State Capitol.

House pages run messages to legislators while they are in the chamber debating policy and voting on measures, and they help in their Capitol offices. Pages also participate in a mock session, in which they learn legislative procedure and how to write legislation.

Katelyn is the daughter of Melanie and Chris Kates.

She is her FFA chapter president and also is in the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she plays varsity golf. After high school, she plans to attend Oklahoma State University to study occupational therapy.

“I’ve known Katelyn and her family since she was in the third grade when her mom and I worked together at Newcastle Elementary. Watching her grow into a bright and beautiful young lady has been such a blessing. The privilege of having Katelyn page for me this week has been an honor,” Conley said. “She was interested in the legislative process, asked great questions, and learned much about state government.

“It’s always a pleasure to have a young person invested in learning more about our system of governance. I wish Katelyn well in her future endeavors.”

Conley serves District 20 in the Oklahoma House of Representative, which includes parts of McClain county.
