There is a correction from last week’s Part4whereIstatedthatMarionAlonzo Holden was buried at our Blanchard Cemetery. Alonzo went down with his ship that was sunk by the Japanese at Guadalcanal in 1942. Only his gravestone is in the Blanchard Cemetery. It is a marble bench located near his family’s graves.

Conley says she will not seek reelection

State Rep. Sherrie Conley, R-Newcastle, announced Thursday she would not seek a fourth term in 2024. Conley, whose district covers parts of McClain and Cleveland counties, was first elected in 2018, and was reelected in 2020, and 2022.

Annual OSAI audit of County shows areas of concern

An annual audit on McClain County business during 2021 by Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector (OSAI) Cindy Byrd’s office was returned with some recommendations for putting into place internal controls on a federal program involving a coronavirus relief fund, and internal controls on the Court Clerk’s collection and disbursement processes, as well as changes to the processes used by the Sheriff’s Office inmate trust fund checking account and commissary fund.
