Big grant for Newcastle Schools

Paulla Bowden, Child Nutrition Program manager, was honored at the September Newcastle Public Schools Board of Education meeting. She obtained a $20,000 grant from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry. Bowden said the grant will be used to purchase locally sourced, minimally processed foods such as ground beef and beef patties. She said, “It’s a wonderful resource for schools and farmers alike.”

County in Burn Ban

A burn ban was declared for McClain County by County Commissioners on Tuesday, September 5. The ban continues for up to 14 days, at which time the commissioners will reconsider.
