Newcastle man uninjured after vehicle rear-ended

A Newcastle man was involved in an automobile collision but was not injured at 4:02 p.m. Thursday April 4 on U.S. Interstate 35, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

A Newcastle man was involved in an automobile collision but was not injured at 4:02 p.m. Thursday April 4 on U.S. Interstate 35, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

OHP Trooper Tim Brinson reports that Jacob P. Schakelaar, 33, of Newcastle, was driving a 2020 International on I-35 northbound one mile north of mile marker 73 in Garvin County and about 1/2 mile north of Pauls Valley in the inside lane, when his vehicle was struck behind by a 2016 Jeep Patriot driven by Kelley M. Haraughty, 30 of Killeen, Texas.

Brinson’s report states that Haraughty was pinned for approximately one hour before being extricated by the Pauls Valley Fire Department using the hurst tool.

Haraughty was transported by Air Evac to Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in fair condition with trunk internal injuries.

Cause of the collision was determined to be inattention, the report indicates.

Brinson was aided at the scene by Trooper Tanner Hamilton, Trooper Francisco Valdez, Mercy EMS, Pauls Valley Fire Department, and Pauls Valley Police Department.
