New members of the National Honor Society were inducted Tuesday, November 28 at Newcastle High School’s auditorium. New inductees are pictured along with current members. The magical holiday classic, The Nutcracker, returns this December to Oklahoma University Theatre.

A filing period is underway for candidates wanting to run for either the Newcastle Board of Education Place #4 or for Seat #5 of the Board of Education at Mid-America Technology Center.

Food drive to help McClain County families ends today

A date for the annual Christmas parade and Christmas in the Park/North Pole Market has been set by the City of Newcastle as Saturday, December 2. Christmas in the Park takes place at Veterans Park on 10th Street, one block east of Main Street.

Former Blanchard High School coach, teacher, administrator and Navy veteran Mike Whaley, 66, a Republican from Blanchard, announced he is running to represent House District 20 in 2024.

A ribbon cutting was recently held for the Newcastle Library’s Storywalk at Veterans Park. It is a fun, educational activity that combines family time, physical activity, and literacy. Pictured in top photo are library officials, City of Newcastle officials, and Newcastle Chamber of Commerce officials as Branch Manager Kendall Watson cuts the ribbon. Last week we learned that on May 4, 1950, The American Legion voted to contribute funds to the field of mental health and join with other mental health organizations to form the National Association for Mental Health. Many of our military suffered mental illness in WWII, which we now know as PTSD syndrome.

Lunch is served for a $5 donation at the Newcastle Senior Citizen’s Center each weekday.
