‘Band of brothers’ hit their senior year together

Newcastle coaches at a meeting Monday in Racer Fieldhouse heard of a new program for high school athletes.

A fundraiser Racer Cheer Booster Golf Tournament will be played at JR’s par 3 course at 6 p.m. Friday, August 23. A registration deadline has been set for August 12.

The annual OSSAA Summer Dead Period was underway this week and concludes on Monday, July 7.

Little All-City Honorable Mention

Madelyn Torrenueva, Brooklyn Lyles, and Aubree Ferguson represented the Newcastle Racers when they played recently in the All-State games. Torrenueva is an outfielder, while Lyles is a corner infielder, and Ferguson is a pitcher. All three will be playing college softball this year. Torrenueva and Ferguson are going to the University of Arts and Sciences in Chickasha, and Lyles is at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. All three, and their coach Mike Crossley, were nominated for Softball Player of the Year through The Oklahoman at the OKC Metro USA Today High School Sports Awards show.

Newcastle Athletics program is sponsoring the first of what they would like to be an annual event: The 2024 Newcastle Athletics Golf Scramble.
