Newcastle Senior Nick Lozano is heavyweight champion
A dual win against Chandler and a second place finish at Conference, highlighted the week in Newcastle Racer wrestling.
The Racers beat Chandler, 58-12, and the junior high Racers won by criteria, 43-42. The high schoolers had several placers in their second place finish at the Midwestern Conference in the Kerr Activities Center in Ada.
Nick Lozano, wrestling at heavyweight, was the Racers’ only champion, but placers included Colton Dobbs, third; Gage Stark, third; Jackson Howard, sixth; Eason Beaty, sixth; and Rylan Rinehart, sixth. There were a total of 25 teams participating at Conference.
For their efforts, Lozano was named Wrestler of the Event and Dobbs was named Match of the Event.
Only two Racer girls went to Conference, which limited them to an 11th place finish, but both girls placed in the top three. Trinity Duran placed second and Tapanga Bornt placed third.
The junior high boys started off with only 10 of 14 weights filled. Stockton Herring was the only placer for Newcastle, coming in as runner- up at heavyweight. The junior high girls placed three of four wrestlers. They are: Emma Watson, fourth; Zoey Bornt, sixth; and Raelynn Boffey, second.
At Chandler, the Wrestler of the Event was Jacob Robertson.
Match of the Event was won by Jaxon Mitchell. He beat an opponent who had beaten him earlier in the year at the Lexington Tournament.
The high school girls split their matches 2-2, while the junior high girls went 1-2.
Next up for the varsity Racers is a trip to the Ardmore Invitational on Saturday.
The junior high wrestlers who qualified will travel starting today (Thursday) to the Jim Norick Sports Arena at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City for the junior high All-State Tournament.
