Newcastle now stands at 7-4 overall in Duals competition for 2025
Newcastle’s Racer Wrestling squad missed out on moving forward in Dual State after winning over Southeast and Lawton Eisenhour, but losing to the host school, Elgin, at District Duals.
The final score in the Newcastle Elgin match was 5613, so Elgin continues on as a team. The Racers will continue with a couple of duals, but will then concentrate on individuals wrestling. The Racers, who are now 7-4 in duals overall and 2-1 in District, won the first two District duals, 6712 and 69-12.
The wrestler of the event for the Racers was Trinity Duran, who on the way to Elgin was informed that she would be wrestling at the 113 lb. class. Jaxon Mitchell was awarded the match of the event by defeating the same wrestler who had beaten him just last weekend in the Carl Albert Semi-Finals.
At the Yukon Girls Tournament, all three Newcastle high school girls placed. Tatum McDaniel took first place and the crown, while Duran placed third, and Tapanga Bornt placed fourth. The high school girls placed 11 out of 30. The junior high girls came in 20th with Presley Garrels winning third place.
McDaniel was the wrestler of the event as the lone champion. Match of the event went to Duran for her competition against Altus.
The Racers celebrated senior night with a win over Community Christian School on January 21. Newcastle had some tough losses at 144, 150, 175, 195 and 215, but that didn’t stop them from achieving a 43-22 victory. The Racers jumped out to an early lead, winning the first six matches before the CCS Royals’ come back.
Wrestler of the event was Jake Robertson, for his fall at 132. Match of the event went to Kage McLean for his win at 138.
Newcastle celebrated seniors Ryder Cruz, Duran, Nicholas Lozano, Cianna McKinney, and Maddyx Snow.
The junior high Racer boys took part in the Chickasha Junior High Tournament during the past weekend, with a good showing of 12th out of 19. Freshman Eason Beaty led the Racers by placing second, with Austin Mitchell placing fourth, and Stockton Herring placing sixth.
Coming up this weekend is the Midwestern Conference Tournament. It is usually held at FireLake Arena, but because of scheduling conflicts, it will be held at the Kerr Activities Center on the campus of East Central University in Ada.
Newcastle’s boys and girls begin wrestling at 10 a.m. on both days. The junior high boys and girls start at 2:30 p.m. After not competing at the Pauls Valley Tournament in January the high school boys will now be wrestling at the Ardmore Men’s Invitational on February 8.
