The Racer girls added two more wins in their 2024-25 basketball season. They beat Tuttle, 64-34, and Weatherford, 55-52.
Newcastle has a good chance of hosting a District and/or Regional Tournament, and further announcements were coming down from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association this week.
The two wins sets up the Racers nicely with a 9-0 record against Class 4A competition. They have a 16-5 record overall.
The regular season rounds out with games against Oklahoma Christian Academy, Crossings Christian Acadmey, and Washington.
Against Tuttle on Tuesday, January 28, Newcastle led all four periods with a substantial lead of 34-13 going into halftime. The Racers held Tuttle to only four second-period points.
Newcastle was led on offense by 23 points from freshman Kalani Kindred. Whitney Wollenberg and Ziyah Sims had 8 each. Lilly Taliaferro and Zarayia Sims had 6 each, Emerson Marble and Kaelin Horton had 5 each. And, Jailiana Salas added 3.
Tuttle was led in points scored by freshman Lakyn Smith with 14. She was followed by Kinzley Battles’ 11 points.
In the Friday night match up, the Racers and Weatherford tied up in the first period, but then Newcastle outdid their opponents by 3, taking the halftime lead, 30-27. Weatherford inched closer with an additional third period point, with the score at 40-38.
Newcastle then took care of business — grabbing the point back — for the 55-52 win.
Kindred outdid herself in the Weatherford game scoring 26 points. Taliaferro had 7, while Reagan Greenroyd had 6. Bella Allen and Wollenberg had 5 each. Zarayia Sims had 4 and Ziyah Sims had 2.
Racers beat Tuttle, lose to Mount St. Mary, and Weatherford Antonio Brown scored 20 for the Racers in the Tuesday night victory against Tuttle.
Both teams came out in the first period scoring 15 points, but Newcastle had 14 in the second period to Tuttle’s 6. The Racers had 9 to Tuttle’s 5 in the third period, and only 11 to Tuttle’s 15 in the fourth. But, it was enough for the Newcastle 49-41 win.
Cole Seely had 9 points for Newcastle, while Kamdyn Colbert had 6. Chris Brinlee had 5, Zach Cragg had 3, and Rex Heskew and Alan Price had 2 each.
Maddox Wilson had 17 to lead Tuttle scoring, while Press Lippoldt added 13.
The Racers had a loss to Weatherford (#1 in Class 4A), 65-33, on Friday, and then returned to action Saturday with a 54-51 loss to Mount St. Mary.
