Kendall Watson, MLIS, came to Newcastle in September and October last year to fill in as interim branch manager at the Newcastle Public Library, an affiliate of Pioneer Library System. He returned April 1 this year to officially assume the branch manager position.

A reception to honor Newcastle Superintendent of Schools Dr. Melonie Hau was held in the Administration Building on Wednesday, May 17. Hau is shown speaking with Chris Rickman of Nabholz Construction; Legion Brumley, a parent and active member of the community including serving on the Economic Development Authority of the City of Newcastle; and Gene Reid, city council member.

The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), is offering Oklahomans who want to quit tobacco a special opportunity. Beginning in the first of May, Oklahomans have been able to sign at for the Helpline and get at least eight weeks of patches, gum or lozenges for free.

New digs underway

McClain-Grady County Emergency Medical Services reports that it made 224 total calls in the month of April 2023. Of those, 128 were billed and 96 were non-transport.
