2023 Newcastle Memorial Day Remembrance

A time of reunion, fellowship and cultural pride; the Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival is set to begin Sept. 29 and continue through Oct. 7.

Firefighter Andrew Burton won the title of 2023 World’s Strongest Firefighter at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, competing against firefighters from as far away as Great Britain and the Czech Republic.

The City of Newcastle announces the “Too Toxic to Trash” Household Waste Cleanup Event, a community initiative dedicated to creating a cleaner, greener, and safer environment for residents. The event will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 8 am to Noon at the Chickasaw Training Center, located at 400 N.W. 32nd Street.

In anticipation of this year’s Friends of the Library Book Sale, Newcastle Rotary Club International has been collecting book donations. These books and many others will be available at this year’s Book Sale and Craft show, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3 in the Community Room at the Newcastle Library.

Newcastle’s annual Memorial Day remembrance is at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Newcastle Memorial Gardens, 2345 S. Main Street. The event will be led by the Tony K. Burris VFW Post 368 and American Legion. Mayor Karl Nail will provide a short speech.

Rates are increasing on your monthly water bill. City Council members approved a meter fee for the replacement and maintenance of water meters in Newcastle.
