S ince the founding of our great nation, patriotic men and women have selflessly chosen to serve our country as a part of the Armed Forces. These brave men and women are deserving of all our respect and appreciation, and we must make it a priority of ours in Congress to fight for the service members who fight for us.

Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) recently announced the names of nine high school students from Oklahoma’s Fourth District that he has nominated for entry into one of our nation’s prestigious military academies. One of the students is a Newcastle High School graduate.

For years, teachers’ unions and even officials at state colleges of education have resisted efforts to improve reading instruction in Oklahoma public schools. That’s why this year’s passage of legislation focused on reading instruction is such a significant victory.

The state Legislature’s recently concluded 2024 session was a productive one for public safety in Oklahoma. I appreciate the work of our lawmakers to prioritize law and order and to strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to hold criminals accountable.

No. 57 June 20, 2024 1 time Board of McClain County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, 6/10/2024 at 8:15 a.m. in Room 111 of the McClain County Courthouse. Chairman Terry Daniel called the meeting to order and led the flag salute. County Clerk Deputy Rebekah Couch called the roll and those present were: Chairman Terry Daniel, Vice Chairman Glen Murray, and Member Wilson Lyles.

The following persons have been charged by the State of Oklahoma with traffic or other violations or have filed other court actions in McClain County District Court between June 6-12, 2024.

Three Newcastle residents were treated and released with unknown injuries after an automobile collision on U.S. Interstate 35 at 7:44 p.m. on June 11.

The second concert in Riverwind Casino’s Beats & Bites Festival presented by Michelob Ultra is set for Saturday, June 22. Featuring country artists Tracy Lawrence and Neal McCoy, the event will also include up to 15 local food trucks and mobile boutiques and community partners.

Tillman County Sheriff William “Bill” Ingram, 50, of Frederick, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle wreck Saturday night in south Newcastle.
