Memorial Day event May 29
Newcastle’s annual Memorial Day remembrance is at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Newcastle Memorial Gardens, 2345 S. Main Street. The event will be led by the Tony K. Burris VFW Post 368 and American Legion. Mayor Karl Nail will provide a short speech.

Water bill to increase with new meter fee

Watson is Newcastle branch mgr.
Kendall Watson, MLIS, came to Newcastle in September and October last year to fill in as interim branch manager at the Newcastle Public Library, an affiliate of Pioneer Library System. He returned April 1 this year to officially assume the branch manager position.

Honoring Dr. Hau
A reception to honor Newcastle Superintendent of Schools Dr. Melonie Hau was held in the Administration Building on Wednesday, May 17. Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline offering free help
The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), is offering Oklahomans who want to quit tobacco a special opportunity. Beginning in the first of May, Oklahomans have been able to sign at for the Helpline and get at least eight weeks of patches, gum or lozenges for free.

EMS makes 224 calls for month of April
McClain-Grady County Emergency Medical Services reports that it made 224 total calls in the month of April 2023. Of those, 128 were billed and 96 were non-transport.
