Kendall Watson, MLIS, came to Newcastle in September and October last year to fill in as interim branch manager at the Newcastle Public Library, an affiliate of Pioneer Library System. He returned April 1 this year to officially assume the branch manager position.
Watson said he is thankful that it wasn’t an April fool’s joke, and that he already feels a kinship to the area.
“Newcastle is such a special place,” Watson said. “I have immediately taken to all of the kind individuals and lovely land out here. While I can’t quite put it into words just yet, Newcastle holds such a unique and inspiring way about it. It is much like a home I didn’t know I had.”
Watson received his Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma.
He was previously employed as one of the Norman Central Library Adult Services Librarians.
Watson is married to his wife, Katie, and they have a six-month-old daughter named Elsie. Watson said it’s been a busy couple of months with starting a new job and becoming a new dad, but he is happy about being in Newcastle.
“It is such a delight to serve the members of this community,” Watson said. “I look forward to learning more from the community and its people. My passion is connecting with the members of the community I serve, so please don’t be strangers. Come by and see us.”
