Girls have desire to run for office; they want to know what it’s like
Girls have desire to run for office; they want to know what it’s like
Between running to and from committees presenting and voting on bills, and then meeting for floor sessions, I also had the opportunity to visit with several groups this past couple of weeks. 03/16/2023 05:00 AM
Get the federal government out of Oklahoma’s waterways
Get the federal government out of Oklahoma’s waterways
As a small business owner, I know firsthand how bureaucratic overregulation and red tape can threaten or even destroy a business. Eleven years ago, the Obama administration’s burdensome and ever-changing Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations put my wife and me out of business in a matter of days—and we weren’t alone. Heavy handed government bureaucracy is a constant challenge for Oklahoma business owners, and it’s why I ran for office in the first place. 03/09/2023 05:00 AM
Reigning in inflation
Reigning in inflation
Since assuming office, President Joe Biden has issued an unprecedented number of unchecked executive orders that have undoubtedly hindered the United States’ economy from fully recovering from the coronavirus pandemic. After two years of financial hardship under his presidency and Democrat control in Congress, I was proud that the House passed the Reduce Exacerbated Inflation Negatively Impacting the Nation (REIN IN) Inflation Act last week to provide a long-needed check on this administration. 03/09/2023 05:00 AM

House committee deadline week
This week at the Capitol was packed with dozens of committee meetings as legislators hurried to ensure their bills were passed ahead of Thursday’s committee deadline. In addition to attending meetings for the committees I sit on, I passed six of my own bills out of their committees prior to the deadline, and those are now eligible to be heard on the House floor. 03/09/2023 05:00 AM
Legislation gives control back to communities to stop smoking, vaping
Legislation gives control back to communities to stop smoking, vaping
Last session, the Legislature passed a bill restricting how municipalities could penalize underage tobacco usage after studies found education was a stronger deterrent than strict penalties. As can happen in the legislative process, we tried it, and it didn’t work. Communities abided by this policy change the last several months, and it became apparent that education simply isn’t enough to stop underage use. 03/02/2023 05:00 AM
A test from the CCP
A test from the CCP
The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) increasingly aggressive and competitive behavior toward our nation is of great concern. It certainly took another bold step earlier this month as a spy aircraft was sent across our country. Unfortunately, during this national security challenge, the Biden Administration once again failed to meet the task in the face of this overt aggression. 03/02/2023 05:00 AM
Faith is seeing the unseen
Faith is seeing the unseen
My favorite verse in the entire Bible is 2 Corinthians 4:18 which says, “So we fix our eyes, not on what we can see, but on what we cannot see. For what is seen is temporary and what is unseen is eternal.” Living this way is extremely hard. It is difficult to focus on eternal things in a world fixated on the here and now. The only way to live for the eternal is to live each day by faith. 03/02/2023 05:00 AM
A speech of deflections
A speech of deflections
President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress recently amid our nation’s mounting and worsening crises. Unfortunately, instead of addressing runaway inflation, the overrun southern border and the increasingly aggressive and emboldened Communist China, he used his speech to deflect from these issues that matter most to Americans. 02/23/2023 05:00 AM

Garvin proposes medical marijuana legislation to address concerns
As the third week gets underway, more than 300 bills have been considered and several passed off the floor. This week, the Senate will be considering many of my bills to address concerns about the medical marijuana industry. 02/23/2023 05:00 AM
