The City of Newcastle announces its 3rd Annual Newcastle Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 10 at the Veterans Park Pond.
Kyle Marks, Newcastle parks director, said, “It’s time to grab your fishing gear and join us for a day of excitement!”
Anglers, ages six and under, seven- to 10-years-old, and 11-15-years-old, can showcase their fishing skills and create unforgettable memories at this fin-tastic event. Participants can register online at www.cityofnewcastleok. com or on-site between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Marks said, “The 3rd Annual Newcastle Youth Fishing Derby is a reel-y great time for young anglers in different age groups to show off their skills and have a splash-tastic day of fun.
“Get ready to cast your lines and make some unforgettable memories!”
From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Oklahoma Wildlife Department will be on hand to provide expert guidance on knot tying, fish identification, casting, safety, and more. This is an opportunity to learn from professionals and become a better angler.
Prizes will be awarded for Longest Fish and Best Dressed Fisherman/Fisherwoman. Additionally, first and second place prizes will be given in each age group for the Biggest Fish.
“It’s time to show off your fishing skills and attempt to reel in a trophy,” Marks said.
The fishing derby will begin at the sound of an air horn and end with another blast. Make sure you’re present at 10:30 a.m. for the door prize drawing. You could be the lucky winner!
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Remember to bring your own fishing pole, tackle and bait. Fishing is limited to one pole/hook per participant. No fishing license is required for this event.
Free hotdogs will be available during the event.
