Meeting held here to introduce Kiwanis

Kiwanis and all the “wonderful Kiwanis Family of Service Leadership Programs for kids, youth, teens, young adults, and people with disabilities,” is coming to Newcastle, according to local resident Janine Wooten.

She said, “As with any family, it grows best with a strong core. That’s where you come in.”

Wooten said an informational meeting about Kiwanis and the Kiwanis Family of Service Leadership Programs was Sunday at The Barn at Country Club, State Highway 37 in Newcastle. The come and go meeting provided information on what Kiwanis can mean to Newcastle.

She said Kiwanis needs caring people to build a club in the community. From that club will grow projects and programs to benefit the community and most especially, the community’s children.

Over the past week, Kiwanians from Division 30 have been meeting with business owners, parents, teachers, and local community leaders to introduce the benefits of Kiwanis. Wooten said you may have spoken with some of them.

Kiwanians said they met with a teacher who wants to see The Special Olympics grow and embrace more people in the community. The teacher needs help to make that happen. They talked to former Key Club members who remember the wonderful opportunities they enjoyed because caring adults were willing to sponsor the program in their high school.

Wooten said service is at the heart of the Kiwanis Family.

“Some of you may believe you don’t have time to be personally involved — there is no minimum time required to be a Kiwanis member,” she said. “Maybe health has slowed you down. If you think about it, you may know someone who can be hands on. Maybe you or your business can sponsor some hands for service.”

Membership in the Kiwanis Club of Newcastle is open to anyone interested in serving the community whether they live in Newcastle or have business or family  connections to Newcastle.

“You can make a difference in the lives of children and in the strength of your community. Join us and you can learn how much positive change even one person can make when they set their mind and heart on a goal.”

If you couldn’t make the meeting but want to learn more, Wooten said you can contact the club organizers at newcastleokkiwanis@ gmail.com.
