A collision September 19 left a Newcastle woman in the hospital.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Burchett, a wreck occurred at 5:16 a.m. September 19, when a 2003 Jeep Liberty driven by Emily C. Johnston, 26, was traveling eastbound on US Highway 62, and attempted to pass a vehicle in front without sufficient clearance.

The Jeep swerved to the right to avoid oncoming traffic, then overcorrected and swerved left, departing the roadway and rolling three times before coming to rest upright.

Trooper Burchett’s report states that the cause of the collision was overtaking without sufficient clearance.

Johnston was transported by Chickasha Emergency Medical Services to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted in fair condition with external head injury and internal and external trunk injuries.

OHP was assisted at the scene by Grady County Fire Department and Chickasha EMS.
