Newcastle’s Racers hit overdrive on Friday night to score 21 firstquarter points against the Woodward Boomers. Not to be outdone, they scored another 14 in the second, 20 in the third, and 14 in the fourth quarters for a total of 69 points to Woodward’s 7.
TheRacers(3-0)playedwell in all phases of the game, according to Head Coach Jeff Brickman. He added, however, that after further review of the game video, that the receivers need to block better.
An interception for a touchdown by Trey Burchett brought a lot of energy to the team, according to Brickman.
Rex Heskew was named Most Valuable Player of the game for the third time in three games. He nabbed the honors for his performances in both the Plainview game and the Weatherford game.
The offense player getting recognition was Maddox Birdsong, while the defense player of the game was Jordan Lane. On special teams, Kaden Longman took the honor.
Brickman said the Racer defense held Woodward to 1.8 yards per rush and forced six three and outs. On offense, the Racers were well balanced, Brickman said, rushing for 215 yards and five touchdowns, while passing for 181 yards and three touchdowns.
Newcastle hosts Tecumseh Friday for homecoming. Brickman said this will be the Racers’ first district game, and the opponent is physical and athletic, and the matchup should be a good one.
