Homecoming for Newcastle Public Schools is Friday, September 22 and the annual parade is being planned.

A parade route and signup information was recently released by Parks and Recreation Director Kyle Marks, who said the parade will start “precisely at 10 a.m.”

Sign ups can include school floats, business floats, and extracurricular floats and cars. Marks said school floats line up from 8:30-9 a.m. Business floats and extracurricular floats will then line up from 9-9:30 a.m. Late arrivals will be placed at the end of the parade.

Floats can check in at N.W. 16th Street and Garrett Drive. The parade route begins on N.W. 14th Street and then heads south on Main Street (State Highway 62) to Newcastle High School. All lanes of Main Street will be closed from N.W. 16th Street to State Highway 130 from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on September 22.

Spectators are asked to line up on both sides of Main Street to watch the parade. Candy will be allowed to be thrown, but those doing so are asked to make every effort to get the candy to the sidewalks.

Spectators are asked to remember to put safety first, and to stay out of the roads, and always keep an eye on your children.

Marks said, “Remember, it’s all about showing school spirit and having fun!”

A float sign up can be found online at https://www.cognitoforms. com/CityOfNewcastle1/Homecoming2023RulesAnd-Signup.

The Racers play football against the Tecumseh Savages later that night at Gene Reid Field, on the campus at Newcastle High School.
