NMS leads entries at Student Art Exhibition

Art students earn 11 merits, 2 exceptional merits, 1 best of show, 2 photography merits; NMS earns check as first school to enter

Newcastle Middle School art students, led by their teachers Kathy Cannon and Vickie Crossley, cleaned up at this year’s Oklahoma Student Art Exhibition at the Oklahoma State Fair.

The school led all schools entering being named number one in rank of the 2023 OSAE Top 10 Merit Schools. Newcastle did so by having one best of show, two exceptional merit awards, and 11 merits out of 21 entries in the show. For their efforts the NMS art department will receive a $100 Hobby Lobby gift card and a $100 check.

Newcastle Middle School was also the first school to register at least five pieces. They will receive a $100 Hobby Lobby gift card for this, as well.

The following are Newcastle’s results from the state fair: NMS Group 1, best of show; NMS Group 2, exceptional merit; Leighton Wooten, exceptional merit; Alexis Long, merit;AnistynPuckett,merit;Avery Dimery, merit; Catelyn Tortolina, merit; Chayse Freese, merit; Group 3, merit; Group 4-Jolee Nix, merit; Jordynn Villanueva, merit; Katelynne Tevis, merit; Maci McCann, merit; Michael Trujillo, merit; Olivia Stone, merit; Paul Porter, merit; and Rikki Davis, merit.

In the photography category, Crossley took the works of eight students. Among those, Anistyn Puckett and Michael Trujillo received merits for their photography.
