Coming off a successful inaugural year event in 2022, Newcastle High School’s STRUT Week organizers are working towards their 2023 event.
NHS student Clare Bebout, who is the junior class president, said they are looking for an applicant to be the STRUT Week representative this year.
Bebout said, “With the new year coming in hot, Newcastle High School’s second annual STRUT week is upon us! In case you haven’t already heard, STRUT Week is an annual philanthropy week to benefit the Newcastle Community. The Students, Teachers and Racers United Together team is looking for applicants to be the 2023 STRUT week recipient.”
Bebout said if you or anyone you know would like to apply you can do so by going online to nhsstrutweek.org and click on the “Beneficiary Application” link.
“Any individual, charity, or family in need is welcome to apply, no matter the circumstances,” Bebout said.
She said STRUT Week is planned to benefit someone in Newcastle.
“When thinking of applying, please keep in mind that our hope is to keep our charity within the community,” she said. “As much as we would love to help all in need, we hope to see our community come together to support a person or entity within it, and see our funding benefit those around us.”
Last year’s recipient was Newcastle High School Earth Science teacher Brian Kauk, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was unable to teach last year. The idea was to help Mr. Kauk and his wife, Kim, as they fought against cancer, paid medical bills, etc. and to show him that his Racer family stands with him in his fight.
At the concluding assembly of STRUT Week last year, the Kauk family was presented with a check for $11,000.
For more information about STRUT Week or applying to be a recipient, please go online to www.nhsstrutweek. org. There, you can sign up for a newsletter to keep up to date. You can also email organizers with any questions at nhsstrutweek@newcastle. k12.ok.us.
The deadline to apply is Valentines Day, February 14, 2023. Bebout said the recipient will be announced shortly after the application process is complete.
Last year’s STRUT Week included food trucks at lunch, a Family Feud match with students and faculty, a volleyball tournament, Bingo, a Powderpuff game, and community service.
