Mid-America Technology Center is the winner of a 2023 Gene Bottoms Pacesetter School Award from the Southern Regional Educational Board. MATC was honored at SREB’s Making Schools Work conference in Orlando, Florida.

Pacesetter School Awards recognize schools that are implementing one of SREB’s Making Schools Work school improvement frameworks and are achieving success in meeting bold goals related to graduation rates, readiness for college and careers, and credential attainment.

Making Schools Work engages the entire tech center community — teachers, leaders and staff working together in a distributed leadership structure — in addressing SREB’s five focus areas:

• Leadership for continuous improvement;

• Aligned curriculum;

• Engaging instruction;

• Career exploration; and

• Systems of support. MATC was honored for implementing a ‘system of support’ for all students. A check-in program was implemented that involves all teachers, administrators, and staff members. Every individual meets with three to seven students each week to make sure all students receive the support they need.

SREB’s Making Schools Work conference is held annually and provides educators with opportunities to participate in professional development, network with colleagues from across the country, and build school and district leadership capacity.

The Southern Regional Education Board works with states and educators to improve education at every level, from early childhood through postsecondary education. Learn more about SREB at sreb.org.
