Athletic Director Todd Goolsby has resigned from Newcastle Public Schools to take a position at Piedmont Public Schools. His resignation was accepted at the July 25 school board meeting.
Goolsby told the Newcastle Pacer the offer to be Director of Activities and Athletics at Piedmont was too good to pass up.
He said he was tidying up on Thursday and his last day was Friday at Newcastle.
Superintendent Dr. Cathy Walker said, “Todd has done an outstanding job for Newcastle Public Schools. He’s worked very hard to advance the athletic program, and he will be missed.”
Dr. Walker has already started the replacement process with five interviews on Thursday night, and she said there are three more on Monday.
She hopes to have a name or plan by the board meeting on August 8. Whoever is hired will start as soon as possible.
Goolsby said several new coaches have been hired for the 2023-24 school year. They are the following: Jarod King, baseball; Jarold Lewis, cross country; Nick McMillan, boys soccer; Hannah (Evans) Venable, girls soccer; Rylea Cole, pom; Mike Crossley, fast pitch (returning as a lay coach).
