After many years, Newcastle Public Schools has a new high school baseball coach for the 2023-24 school year. Hired during a Monday morning meeting of the NPS Board of Education was coach Jarod King.
The Comanche coach was the choice of a four-person committee given the task of determining qualified candidates and then interviewing prospects. King begins his coaching duties immediately, and his teaching assignment is yet to be decided.
The Board of Education voted unanimously for King’s employment.
Coach King played college baseball at NOC-Tonkawa and at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. He was an assistant coach from 2007-2013 at Chickasha Public Schools.
He left Chickasha to teach and be head coach at Fletcher Public Schools for eight years. At Fletcher, he had a 302-129 win-loss record and had three state tournament appearances.
C oach King took his Fletcher teams to the Fall Baseball State Tournament in 2018, and the Spring Baseball State Tournaments in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, he was named the All State Coach and SWOBCA’s Coach of the Year. While serving as an assistant coach, he was a part of two state runner-up teams in 2007 and 2009.
Coach King replaces Coach Mike Crossley, who retired from teaching at NPS at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Crossley may return as a lay coach for high school girls softball.
