A trip to Woodward on Monday resulted in a 2-1 first-round Class 4A State Soccer loss for the Racers. The loss ended Newcastle’s soccer season for 2023.
A penalty kick by Woodward’s Alex Wells made the difference, but the Boomers added a save later in the game.
Woodward managed the first goal after about 17 minutes in the first half, but then the Racers answered with a goal.
In the second half, a foul was assessed when a Newcastle player knocked down a Woodward player. The penalty shot was good, giving Woodward the lead they would maintain.
The Racers finished the 2023 season placing third in District 4A-1, and with a 10-6 overall record.
