N ewcastle Mayor Karl Nail has served the City since August 2006 when he filled a seat left vacant upon the death of Councilman Wes Wilson. Nail was sworn-in at the September meeting that year.
Prior to that he served on the City Planning Commission for several years and as chairman for the two years prior to August 2006.
Nail was elected mayor after the City Council elections in 2007 when he ran for the remaining term of the seat. He has served as mayor for 14 of the last 16 years. Gene Reid was mayor from 2017-2019.
