A report of false identity has been reported to the Newcastle Police Department about a couple who were in attendance at the City’s Easter Egg event on April 1 in Veterans Park taking photos of children and obtaining their names while saying they are with the Newcastle Pacer.

Pacer Publisher Mark Codner said he doesn’t know who these individuals are and they are not employees or representatives of the Pacer. Codner said when out in the public, anyone can photograph you or you child; however, if someone is taking photos it’s a good idea to have them show their identification. He said don’t give them personal information without knowing who they are.

“If I am at a public event, I will gladly show you my business card or be wearing my photo ID,” Codner said. “No one has contacted our office saying they have photos from the event and they would like us to publish them, and we haven’t talked with anyone about publishing their photos from the Easter event.”

Codner said he was made aware of the false identity when Newcastle City Councilman Mike Fullerton called to ask about photos being in the Pacer after the event. During the discussion, Fullerton and Codner determined it was in the best interest of the public to call Newcastle Police to make them aware of the incident.

Police Chief Gary Norman said his office was looking into it, and would see if anyone has photos of the couple.
