Norman man injured in two-vehicle wreck on US62

A Norman man was injured in a collision at 11:40 p.m. Friday, April 7 in Newcastle.

A Norman man was injured in a collision at 11:40 p.m. Friday, April 7 in Newcastle.

According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, a 1995 black Ford F150 driven by James Blackburn, 52, of Norman, was stopped on US Highway 62 in the outside lane going northbound without vehicle lights on.

A 2021 Dodge Charger driven by Harry Kelly, 42, of Purcell, was northbound on US-62 and struck the truck, causing it to catch fire. The truck then crossed all lanes of traffic before departing the roadway to the left and striking a fence and a bale of hay before coming to rest.

OHP cited the cause of the collision as improperly stopped in the roadway.

Blackburn was transported by EMS to Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in good condition with possible head and chest internal injuries.

Kelly was transported by EMS to Norman Health Complex, treated and released.

OHP was assisted by the McClain County Sheriff’s Office, Newcastle Police, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police and McClain-Grady County Emergency Medical Service.
