A family gathering was recently held to celebrate the 70th wedding anniversary of Bill and Fran Shoumaker.
The Shoumakers, who are 50-year residents of Newcastle, said they met in Waco, Texas, at a skating rink.
Their celebration was March 6, 2023, at Bill’s Steakhouse, 1013 S.W. 89th Street in Oklahoma City, with many of their children and loved ones in attendance. Bill and Fran’s four children hosted the celebratory meal.
During the celebration, Bill said to the family, “It might seem like 70 years is a long time, but it goes by quickly.”
Among those in attendance were: their children Janice Cory and husband Mike, Clarence Shoumaker, Cheryl Littlejohn, Byron Shoumaker and wife Dina; grandchildren Catherine Harris and husband Zach, Caitlin Dressler, Jay Shoumaker and Emily Shoumaker.
Family members said Bill had a long career at FAA and retired at the young age of 55. He continued to work several more years doing contract work, and he stays busy now doing home improvements.
Fran worked in Waco, Texas, at an insurance company; at Emmer Brothers in Oklahoma City; and the Whistle Stop in Newcastle.
She is currently a homemaker and member of the Donut Dollies that meet every Tuesday.
Bill and Fran are founding members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City.
The children said they are very proud of their parents.
