Neither Newcastle City Council, nor Newcastle Board of Education will have an April 4 election, however there will be elections in nearby McClain County communities such as Bridge Creek, Blanchard, and Goldsby.
Only two people filed for the open Council seats in Newcastle. They are incumbent Council members Marci White in Ward No. 2, and Tommy Clay in Ward No. 1.
White said she is serving as the citizen’s voice to the City, and she is there to help hold the City accountable to its residents. She also wants the residents to know that it’s okay to disagree with others but still understand their point of view and respect their point of view.
Clay said he would like to finish what the Council started with the infrastructure build from back in his very first term.
“We started the process of building a new wastewater treatment plant, and of course the fire station and the animal rescue facility. All this is important and vital to the community,” Clay said.
He added that he would like to continue in a fiscally conservative approach to the growth that is happening in Newcastle.
For the Board of Education, Office No. 3 only incumbent Tiffany Elcyzyn filed for the seat. She will be sworn in after the April 4 election to a new five-year term.
Elcyzyn said, “With the announcement of Dr. Hau’s retirement and the bond projects officially in motion but not yet underway, I felt an established responsibility to stick around and help sustain some of the good rapport that NPS has worked so hard to revive these past few years.”
