Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor,
Ihave researched and found that abandonment, of any animal, is considered animal cruelty, by the State of Oklahoma.
My mother recently received an outward confession from a woman at an apartment complex in Newcastle who has been live trapping community cats and releasing them onto “private property.” When asked about the property and stating concern for the animals wellbeing, she stated, “I don’t see why you are concerned with this.”
My family and I have been feeding, taming, rehoming, and participating in Trap Neuter Release programs, in order to take accountability for the stray cat population within our neighborhood. This is why we are concerned by this.
We fear that we have assisted in the domestication of these animals and are feeling faulted for their abandonment at the apartments. I’m also a member of the Newcastle community page on Facebook, and many people around the Main Street area have had cats go missing.
Please help us solve this situation that is unfair and cruel for the families and animals of our community.
Davin Eck, Newcastle
