Racers Slowpitch goes 1-1 on Monday

Newcastle’s Slowpitch Softball team had a win and a loss Monday night coming off of Spring Break. The Racers beat Blanchard 17-8, and lost to Washington, 19-3.

Newcastle’s Slowpitch Softball team had a win and a loss Monday night coming off of Spring Break. The Racers beat Blanchard 17-8, and lost to Washington, 19-3.

Vanessa Portillo went 1-1 taking on the pitching duties in both games.

Against Blanchard, several Racers had hits including: Lexie Lovelace, 3; Jacie Brooks, 3; Hailie Guthier, 3; Lyla Gaither, 2; and 1 each from Vanessa Portillo, Aubree Ferguson, Lilyana Portillo, Madelyn Torrenueva, Meredith Strange, and Cortni Smith.

Lovelace had a home run for the Racers, and Lovelace, Lilyana Portillo, Torrenueva, Gaither, and Brooks each had doubles. Lovelace and Brooks had three RBIs for the Racers.

Newcastle had 19 hits to Blanchard’s 10, and the Racers’ hits resulted in 17 runs scored. Newcastle had only one error in the game.

Against Washington, the Racers only had three errors to the Lady Warriors’ five errors, but Newcastle could only manage 11 hits resulting in three runs scored. At the same time, Washington had 21 hits resulting in 19 runs scored.

Hitting for Newcastle was Vanessa Portillo, Ferguson, Strange and Gaither with two each; and Lovelace, Lilyana Portillo, and Torrenueva with one each.

Lilyana Portillo had two RBIs for Newcastle, and Strange had one RBI.

The Racers were scheduled to play North Rock Creek and Purcell on Tuesday, but it was after the Newcastle Pacer print deadlines so we were unable to report these scores.
