Newcastle Track and Field Coach Jason Haggerty said It was a great week for the Racers.
“We went to the OBU meet on Tuesday and the Carl Albert meet on Friday. We took 40 athletes to the Carl Albert meet and 34 of the athletes beat their personal record or season record,” Haggerty said.
At the Carl Albert meet, the Racer girls finished 8th out of 19 teams and the boys finished 11th out of 18 teams.
“We have gotten significantly better in the field events and hurdles this year. Just about every long jumper, thrower, and hurdler we have on the team set records this week and many of them are now ranked in the top 25 in the state,” Haggerty said.
He said these athletes include: Colin Casey - 7th in shot put Brylee Scott - 14th in shot put Romy Aubrey - 22nd in shot put Eyan Barker - 10th in discus Cooper Hayden - 18th in discus Chris Brinlee - 13th in long jump TJ Bradford - 24th in long jump Jordie Brooks - 2nd in long jump Katie Lewis - 2nd in pole vault Katie Lewis - 4th in the 100m hurdles Kakie Lewis - 7th in the 300m hurdles Blake Moslander - 24th in the 110m hurdles Coach Josh Heskew, the Racers’ new throwers coach, Coach Daryan Houser, the new long jump coach, and Coach Bailey Dowell, the Racers’ new hurdles coach have done an amazing job and have been huge assets to the program, Haggerty said.
He also said thank you to the school board members, to Superintendent Dr. Cathy Walker, and to Athletic Director Brent Hodges for their investment into the track program and by allowing the program to add new coaches.
“I would also like to thank our community for passing the last bond issue and investing into our athletic facilities. We have brand new restrooms at the track and we are excited to be able to use them in the near future,” Haggerty said.
