Racers have several medalists at Piedmont

Track and Field season is underway for Newcastle High School and the varsity teams just competed at their first meet.

The Racer boys team brought home a sixth place finish and the girls brought home a fourth place finish.

Head Coach Jason Haggerty said it was a great first meet for the Racers, especially because there were a lot of Class 6A teams competing.

Finishing in the top 3 and receiving medals were: Silver medalists: Jordie Brooks - 100m dash Alec Shumard - 800m run Katie Lewis - 300m hurdles Katie Lewis - pole vault Brylee Scott- shot put Bronze medalists: Jordie Brooks - long jump Boys 4x4 relay - Chris Brinlee, Keal Brickman, Timo Porter, and Alex Shumard Girls 4x4 - Rylee Heskew, Katie Lewis, Emma Bell, and Chesney McLean Finishing in the top six and scoring team points for the Racers were: Blake Moslander - 300m hurdles Blake Moslander - 100m hurdles Colin Casey - shot put Copper Hayden and Garrett Pratt - discus Chris Brinlee - long jump Boys 4x8 relay - Luke Perkins, Keal Brickman, Jason Johnson, and Alex Shumard Ava Snider - high jump Girls 4x2 relay - Ella Phillips, Ayla Hulsey, Rylee Heskew, and Leighton Wooten Girls 4x1 relay - Ella Phillips, Ayla Hulsey, Paisley Pearcy, and Jordie Brooks
