Fort Gibson takes the win, 60-34

While the end to this year’s season came two games earlier than they wished, the Newcastle Racer girls basketball team still had a great season.

The Racers were ousted from the State Tournament in the quarter-final game against Fort Gibson, 60-34. The Tigers moved on where they lost in the semi-finals to Douglass. Douglass would then lose to the State Champions, Lincoln Christian.

Newcastle, normally dominating their scoring by period while holding their opponents defensively, lost every period. The Racers had 11 to Fort Gibson’s 12 in the first. The Tigers maintained their lead into halftime, scoring 14 to Newcastle’s 11.

The third period saw a 7 point output by the Racers to Fort Gibson’s 18. And, then the Racers had only 5 to Fort Gibson’s 13 in the fourth period.

Kalani Kindred led the Racers in scoring as she has done all season. She had 14 points. Reagan Greenroyd had 9 points, and Ziyah Sims had 6. Whitney Wollenberg had 3, and Zarayia Sims had 2.

Newcastle worked their way up at the Area Tournament to be named Consolation Champions — earning a spot at the State Tournament.

They beat Holland Hall, 3733.

Kindred and Wollenberg each had 7 points for the Racers. Greenroyd, Lily Taliaferro, and Zarayia Sims each had 6. Ziyah Sims had 4.

Newcastle finished its regular season undefeated against their District opponents. They were District and Regional Champions.
