Newcastle residents will have an opportunity to learn about emergency preparedness at the city’s first annual Disaster Prep Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the Newcastle Storm Shelter, 851 N. Carr Drive.

Free to the public, this event will bring together first responders, emergency management experts, and vendors to provide vital information and resources to help the community prepare for severe weather and disasters.

Local agencies, including Newcastle Emergency Management, Newcastle Police and Fire Departments, McClain-Grady EMS, McClain County Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service, will be on-site to offer guidance on emergency planning and response.

The Red Cross will provide CPR training, and OEC will be available to discuss power restoration efforts during storms. Residents will also have a chance to explore storm shelter options, with Sprague’s Backhoe Service showcasing their products.

As storm season approaches, city officials emphasize the importance of proactive preparedness.

Emergency Management Director Donnie Sullins encourages the public to take advantage of this opportunity to meet first responders, ask questions, and gather information that could help protect their families and property.

Disaster Prep Expo is free and open to the public, and welcomes residents of all ages to see hands-on demonstrations, learn lifesaving skills, and connect with emergency professionals.
