He finishes junior swim season at NHS just seconds off State records in Butterfly, Breaststroke
Connor Leader returned home from the Class 5A State Swimming Championships as a two-time State Runner Up. The sole Newcastle swimmer finished second in both the 100 Yard Breaststroke and in the 100 Yard Butterfly.
Coach Brett Brooks said Connor did a great job being beat out by a swimmer from Holland Hall who set the State Record in the Breaststroke in the preliminaries, and then beat his own record in the State Finals.
Connor was not quite three seconds off the State Champion’s pace. He was seeded number 2 and swam in Heat 2 in the preliminaries. His finish landed him in lane 5 for the finals. Connor finished his junior swim season with a time of 58.38 seconds in the Breaststroke and a time of 52.39 seconds in the Butterfly.
Brooks said Connor will start his club swim season in a couple of weeks. For now, he has moved on to baseball where he pitches and plays outfield.
