Lozano, Mitchell make the State Wrestling trip to OKC Fairgrounds
Gage Stark, Jaxon Mitchell and Nicholas Lozano made their way to the State Wrestling Championships over the weekend, with Stark (113 lbs) returning with a third-place finish.
Lozano (285 lbs) had an initial win, but then lost in the next two rounds. Mitchell had two losses in a row to end the season.
Stark, whose record was 30-6, beat Kash Prince of Glenpool in the first round, but then lost by fall in :43 in the second round to Canaan Brummett of Chickasha. Stark won by fall in 2:34 in the next round against Breydon Ball of Altus. And then wrestling for third place, he beat Tanner Barlow of McAlester by 7-0 decision.
Mitchell lost by technical fall to Greyson Zellers of Bishop Kelley, and then took the loss to Redus Bowman of McAlester by fall in 5:16. Mitchell finished his season with a 23-8 record.
Lozano beat Roger Garrett of Pryor on a 10-5 decision. He then took on Joshua Feliciano, a Claremore wrestler, but lost by a 4-2 decision. Lozano continued to the next round where he was beat by Marley Scott of Chickasha, on a 4-2 decision. Lozano finished the year with a 33-5 record.
The Newcastle Wrestling Banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. March 13 at the Newcastle First Baptist Church.
