Duran wrestles into Regional semi-finals before losing

Two girl wrestlers took part at the OSSAA Regional Tournament in Shawnee on Monday, February 17, but ended their seasons there.

Trinity Duran, wrestling at 110 lbs, wrestled her way to the semi-finals match at Regionals before being beat by Sophia Reece of Broken Arrow.

Reece went into the finals to face Marli Arbona of Ponca City, but was beat. Reece has a record of 55 wins, 23 losses. 41 of her wins came on pins. Arbona has a record of 55-17, with 34 of those coming on pins.

Duran drew a bye in the first round, and then wrestled and beat Marie Branch of U.S. Grant. She then beat Mikaela Pinley of Putnam City West. That led her to the finals where she took the loss against Reece. Duran comes out of Regionals with a 12-8 record. Seven of her wins came on pins, while two were on technical falls.

Tapanga Bornt, wrestling at 115 lbs for Newcastle, was beat in the first round by Christin Guerrero of Lawton Eisenhour. Bornt finished her season as a Regional qualifier and with a 13-15 season.
