Illness and injuries took out a few Newcastle wrestlers as they prepared to enter a Dual against Southmoore; however, the varsity girls won all their matches by fall.
The boys lost 33-30, and the junior high boys lost 45-30. Girl wrestlers Trinity Duran and Tapanga Bornt both wrestled two matches.
Match of the Event went to Bornt as she and her opponent had one win each, and Bornt had the comeback win with best two of three. Gage Stark was the Wrestler of the Event.
The varsity boys had to make several lineup changes leading up to the moment they left for the Dual due to illness and injuries.
The junior high had three open weights to deal with, but the lone junior high girl won both of her matches by fall.
The Newcastle squads were supposed to participate in the Ardmore Invitational, but decided not to attend to give time for healing from the injuries and sickness, and to prepare for Regionals.
The boys OSSAA Class 5A Regionals will be February 2122 at Chickasha High School. The girls OSSAA 6A Regionals will be February 17-18 at Shawnee high School.
