James ‘Poppie’ Malone

James “Poppie” Malone, age 91, of Newcastle, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. James Merle Malone was born July 3, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, the oldest of three children born to James Ralph Malone and Elva Madelyn (Boone) Malone. He was raised in St. Louis and attended school there, graduating in 1951.

He answered the call of service to his country and joined the United States Marine Corps. James was a true patriot who proudly served his country during the Korean War. While stationed in McAlester, Oklahoma, he met the love of his life, Freda Sue Manschreck. They married in 1956. They lived in St. Louis and Tulsa, making their home in Newcastle, where they raised their children, Kelly, Charlotte, Tracey, and Buddy.

James was a gifted mechanic and worked on heavy equipment. He retired from 19th Seed after more than 20 years and then logged another 20 years at T.J. Campbell. James was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers, Local Lodge #627. Away from work, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and watching nothing but Channel 4. He was an avid sports fan, cheering hard for his OU Sooners and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a man of faith as well as a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed!

“Anyway ….” He was preceded in death by: his wife, Freda Sue Malone; daughter, Kelly Corbin; grandson, Riley Boatwright; parents, Ralph and Madelyn Malone; and siblings, Charles Malone and Carolyn Cox.

James is survived by: daughters: Charlotte Holman and husband Mike; Tracey Boatwright and husband Donnie; son: Ralph “Buddy” Malone; son and daughter-in-law Randy and Susan Corbin; daughterin- law Angel Malone; grandchildren: Emily Blakley and husband Stephen; Cameron Corbin and wife Sara; Megan Sandy-Malone and wife Cassie; Elaine Krueger and husband Tyler; Coleman Boatwright and wife, Kendra; Natalie Boatwright and fiance Darius; Macie Malone; Chase Boatwright and fiance John Paul; Ella Malone; and Regan Boatwright; seven great-grandchildren: Bridger, Grady, Corbin, Wade, Vienna, Teagan, and Laynie; and a host of other family and friends.

The family would like to thank A Path of Care Hospice and Home Health, especially Paula for her years of kindness.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City. www.wilsonlittle.com.
