Filing period slated Feb. 3 - Feb. 5
With the exception of the seat held by Marci White, all other Newcastle City Council seats are coming up for election in a nonpartisan general election on April 1.
A candidate’s filing period is from 8 a.m. Monday, February 3 through 5 p.m. February 5 at the McClain County Election Board. White, who will not undergo an election this time, has the seat for Council Member Ward 2.
Seats up for election are:
Council Member Ward 1, unexpired term expiring April 2027; Council Member Ward 3, expiring April 2029; Council Member Ward 4, expiring April 2029; and Council Member At-Large, expiring April 2029.
FILING: Must be resident 6 months prior
Council members who are currently in those seats are the following: Ward 1, Kimberly Sutton; Ward 3, Mike Fullerton; Ward 4, Karl Nail; and Council Member At-Large, Gene Reid.
Candidates must fill out their Declarations of Candidacy and Oath form, and their Qualifications and Requirements for Municipal Candidates form. The oath form will need to be signed by a notary public. Candidates will also have to submit a Voter Registration Verification Form.
Newcastle candidates must have been a resident and registered voter within the ward for at least six months prior to filing a Declaration of Candidacy.
Although candidates are nominated by ward, they are elected at large. This means all the voters in the City get to cast a vote in all of the races.
