Dr. Walker letter to District families

Ihope everyone had a great start to the new year! I would like to update you on the construction projects and make you aware of a few other items.

The middle school classroom and restroom project is complete. On January 3, 2025, the middle school teachers and staff were able to have class in the new addition. We celebrated the completion of the project with a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 8. Look for a video to be posted of the new classrooms on our website over the next week.

The playgrounds at the Early Childhood Center and the elementary school are also complete. Students at both schools have been enjoying their new playground equipment. It is great to see students having so much fun at recess.

The high school project is progressing nicely. The first concrete pour is scheduled for this Friday, January 17 and steel work is scheduled to start at the beginning of February. Thank you to everyone who voted “yes” on the 2022 bond. Your vote is making a difference for our kids!

We also recognized outstanding educators as Teachers of the Year across the district:

• ECC: Makensey Saldana

• Elementary: Tonya Walker

• Middle School: Glen Stallings

• High School: Jordan Heatly

• Thrive: Krista Cochran Congratulations to all of these teachers who are doing great things for kids!

In the coming weeks, I will spotlight a school and share with you many of the great things happening at that site.

Finally, I am interested in restarting the Newcastle Education Foundation (NEF). This foundation consists of parents who are looking to support Newcastle Schools. If you would like to learn more about NEF and are interested in serving on the NEF board, please consider attending an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on January 30, 2025, at the Administration Building.

Great things are happening at Newcastle Public Schools. I truly appreciate your support and what the community does for our kids!

It’s a great day to be a RACER!
