The Newcastle City Council during their Monday night meeting this week approved an election for Council members in Ward 1 and 2.
A nonpartisan general election will be Tuesday, April 4 to see who will serve in the positions. Terms for both positions are four years, running from April 2023 to April 2027.
Candidates must be a resident and registered voter within ward of the municipality for at least six months prior to filing a declaration of candidacy. A filing period is from 8 a.m. Monday, February 6 through 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 8. Contests of candidacy can then be filed until 5 p.m. on Friday, February 10.
Currently serving in Ward 1 is Tommy Clay, and in Ward 2 is Marci White.
