Show them you care

City Parks and Rec., NPS, PLS sending love to kids at hospital

The City of Newcastle Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce a meaningful collaboration with Newcastle Public Schools and the Pioneer Library System to bring the annual Valentine’s Cards for Oklahoma Children’s Hospital program to life. This community initiative encourages residents of all ages to craft heartfelt Valentine’s cards to brighten the days of children receiving care at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital.

“This program embodies the spirit of Newcastle — a community that comes together to make a difference,” said Kyle Marks, Parks and Recreation Director. “With the support of Newcastle Public Schools and the Pioneer Library System, we’re able to inspire more people to participate and spread joy to children who need it most.”

How to Get Involved

1. Gather Supplies: Grab paper, markers, crayons, and other craft supplies like stickers or colored paper.

For safety, avoid materials like glitter that could shed or come off.

2. Create Cheerful Messages: Write uplifting messages such as “You’re incredible!” or “Keep smiling!” Avoid references to illness or religious phrases to ensure inclusivity.

3. Sign Your Name: Add a personal touch by signing your name and, if desired, include your class, school, organization, or city. Examples: Jill from Art Class; VALENTINES on page 3 Kate from Girl Scout Troop #6355; or Kevin from Newcastle, OK.

VALENTINES: Drop off cards by Feb. 10

4. Drop Off Your Cards: Submit completed cards by February 10 to one of these locations: City Hall: 120 NE 2nd St., Newcastle, OK; Newcastle Pioneer Library: 705 NW 10th St., Newcastle, OK; or the Parks Department Office: 801 N Carr Dr., Newcastle, OK

Community Impact The Valentine’s cards will be delivered to Oklahoma Children’s Hospital on February 11, ensuring that young patients and their families feel the warmth and support of the Newcastle community. The program highlights the importance of kindness, creativity, and coming together to make a difference.

Marks said he extends his gratitude to Newcastle Public Schools and the Pioneer Library System for their essential roles in promoting and supporting this initiative.

“Their involvement allows us to expand our reach and encourage more families, students, and organizations to join this effort,” he said.
